Survey Application Notes


  1. You may use this form for the inspection or survey of radio, radar and certain navigational aids/equipment which may be surveyed by radio surveyors.


  2. SELEX Communications Ltd. - Marine Division will require lodgement with it of a deposit, based on the estimated total fee for the survey, before work is commenced.


  3. You may pay by cheque or postal order, which should be crossed and made payable to SELEX Communications Limited and forwarded to the address specified on sheet 1 overleaf. Receipts will only be issued when specifically required.


  4. Advance notification of survey work should be given where possible. A charge, in addition to the normal fee, will be made for overtime, surveys abroad and abortive visits.


  5. If you are dissatisfied with the survey findings and cannot reach agreement in discussion with the surveyor, you can ask the Chief Surveyor of the District to review the findings with you and, if you wish, your representative or professional adviser. If the difficulties cannot be resolved, you can take any remaining grievance to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency at their Headquarters. Should these procedures fail to satisfy your complaints you have a right to appeal to a Court of Survey as provided under the Merchant Shipping Acts, details of which are available from your local Marine Officer.


  6. A copy of the SELEX Communications Ltd. 'Conditions for the supply Radio Installation Survey' may be obtained, on application, from SELEX Communications Ltd. - Marine Division at the address given on page 1.


  7. A Cargo Ship Safety Radio Certificate and a Record of Equipment Certificate are required as under subsection (1) of section 9 of the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) Act 1949 for an intended international voyage.


  8. In accordance with Statutory Instrument No.3243, the Merchant Shipping (Fees) Regulations of 1996 and Statutory Instrument No.531, the Merchant Shipping (Fees) (Amendments) of 1988, all fees for Surveys must be paid in advance prior to commencement of Survey.

    In line with these instructions SELEX Communications Ltd. - Marine Division will collect an advance payment dependant upon type and class of vessel/survey and distance from Radio Surveyors normal office.

    On completion of Survey an invoice will be raised and any adjustments made to the advance payment.
